We must say goodbye to our dear friend, Ethel Furlong, who passed away Friday, October 14, 2005, at age 98. Ethel was a charter member of the Atlanta Chapter of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, joining in 1959. She was very active in the Chapter, and always enjoyable to talk with. Our condolences go out to her daughter, Anne Eldredge. Ethel will be greatly missed.

October 2005

Everyone was on time for our October meeting, except the one with the KEY. The custodian who opens the Aquatic center for our meeting forgot to come. As it was a beautiful October morning, we decided to hold the meeting outside. Our refreshments became a picnic, and the mart items were displayed on the ground or in the back of cars. Brooks Coleman even led a small but exciting auction.

Electricity was a problem for our scheduled speaker, Ed Ueberall, who had come up from Savannah. Since he was going to present a slide show on Swiss watches made for the North American railroad service, and we had no access to electricity (much less a darkened room), he has rescheduled the presentation for next year.

Although the watch group's focus was on Bulova Accutron watches, and many were shown around, since we were not indoors, the formal display of the more rare specimens was missing. Watch for this topic to be revisited!
