October 2000

Kent Singer, our resident expert on Railroad Watches, gave a fascinating talk on just what qualifies as a Railroad Watch. Through a slide presentation that was chocked full of close-ups of various pocket watches, advertisements, and memos, Kent spoke of the ever-changing requirements for these timepieces. Going from the first railway companies that adopted a standard to when wristwatches were deemed acceptable, he mixed fact with insight and humor to produce an enlightening and enjoyable program.

For those who missed the last meeting, you missed quite a mart. We had the whole gambit, from "severly distressed" fixer-uppers to pristeen show pieces. There were all kinds of clocks and watches, as well as several old magazines (which were free for the taking!).

Anyone interested in seeing some of our Chapter members' clocks on display are encouraged to visit the "Street of Dreams" in Suwanee, GA. This showcase of homes and decorators is open until November 12. Chapter members have loaned their clocks for the interior designers' displays in $400,000 to $700,000 homes at Rivermoore Park.
